Safety belts

Responsibility : Société de l’assurance automobile du Québec

The Highway Safety Code stipulates that any person riding in a road vehicle* must correctly wear the seat belt with which the person's seat is equipped. Children whose sitting height is less than 63 cm (measured from the seat to the top of the head) must be held in a car seat that is appropriate for their height and weight.

*Road vehicle:

A motorized vehicle that can be driven on a highway and must be registered under the Highway Safety Code. Trailers, semi-trailers and detachable axles, though non-motorized, are nonetheless considered motor vehicles. Vehicles that run only on rails and electrically propelled wheelchairs are not road vehicles.
