Long-term lease of movable property

Responsibility : Office de la protection du consommateur

There are two types of long-term lease contracts:

  • basic lease contracts, with or without an option to purchase

  • lease contracts with guaranteed residual value (less frequently used)
The Consumer Protection Act governs all contracts for the lease of movable property for four months or more, and lease contracts whose duration can be extended to four months or more through a renewal clause. Movable property includes automobiles, electronic devices and household appliances.
