The Regulation respecting travel agents provides for the compensation of travellers through the Fonds d'indemnisation des clients des agents de voyages (compensation fund for customers of travel agents). This means that, if a carrier is unable to fulfil its obligations, travellers can obtain a reimbursement directly from the fund.
Simpler and faster compensation
To obtain compensation, it is no longer necessary for travellers to file a claim with the courts against their travel agent. However, they must have dealt with a travel agent offering retail services in Québec. Transactions directly with the supplier are not protected by the compensation fund.
