Fraud is the illegal misappropriation of another person’s property or assets, with the person’s authorization, using false pretexts or misrepresentation and dishonest practices for the purpose of deceiving the person. Regional stations of the Sûreté du Québec and municipal police corps conduct inquiries into frauds involving credit cards, debit cards and cheques, as well as into swindles, and cases of false pretence, and appropriation or theft of identity.
