Over the past few years, fraudulent telemarketing has become an increasingly more widespread criminal activity. With the advent of the Internet, the focus has in part shifted from telephone calls to e-mails, with fraudsters now able to reach a considerable number of individuals using lists of e-mail addresses. The "Nigerian Scam", thus named because of the prevalence of messages coming from Nigeria, is one of the more popular frauds.
