The Cities and Towns Act and the Municipal Code of Québec confer on municipalities the power to regulate chimney sweeping on their territory and to designate the chimney sweeps who must be hired for this service. Municipalities governed by this legislation may issue permits to these chimney sweeps, if they wish.
